The boys are back for the World's Longest game |
| February 2008 - It is that time again... They are constructing the NHL-sized rink in his backyard, tuning up his Zamboni, finding sponsors, volunteers and building the momentum.
Thats right its Brent Saik and the boys back for another attempt at the Worlds Longest Hockey Game.
Just a few years ago in February 2005 was the last game -- But how did it all begin?
It was inspired by a deathbed wish of Brent's dad. And beer.
"My dad passed away with cancer. Just before he died, he told me, 'I don't mind going, but the kids ... when my time is up do as much as you can for the kids at the Cross.' His funeral was the first donation.''
"We were sitting around there after playing a night game. We'd been out there quite a while. Somebody said if we'd just kept playing we could have beat that record those guys set in Red Deer. I mentioned my dad and cancer. By 4 a.m. we'd decided we were going to do it. |
